Travel and Street Photos

I spend a lot of my free time riding around Vancouver on my bicycle shooting street photos of whatever might catch my eye. Usually, I find people to be the most interesting subjects, especially when they’re photographed unawares. The photos here show people having fun, being serious, playing, working, and, hopefully, just being themselves. Most photos highlight street locations in Vancouver but the web site also includes photos shot in Thailand, Japan, Nepal, Bhutan, Morocco, and quite a number of other locations around the world. In my lifetime, travels have taken me to about 50 countries in North America, Central America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

That’s me in the two photos above, the first taken at the Schwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Myanmar, and the second in Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, France. The first is a monumental work of architecture honoring the Buddha, and the second, the simple gravestone of rock legend Jim Morrison, two famous pilgrimage sites physically and spiritually worlds apart.

Of the gladdest moments in human life, me thinks, is the departure on a distant journey into unknown lands. Shaking off, with one mighty effort, the fetters of habit, the leaden weight of routine, the cloak of many cares, and the slavery of home.
